The region is characterised by polder landscape, beaches and woodland. You can cycle from village to village. Each village has its own charm and atmosphere. Because the inland is water-rich, there are many small waters and creeks, and a canoe trip allows you to explore the landscape in a completely different way.

Culture lovers should definitely visit Alkmaar's historic city centre. With children, you can visit the Land van Fuweel, which has a large play paradise and climbing paradise and where you can learn all about the national pride, the tulip. In good weather, swimming paradise holle bolle boom is a must. Nearby Waarland is Europe's largest butterfly garden, Vlindorado.
Reaching Den Helder in just a few minutes by car, this city has a rich maritime history. Because the city is surrounded by water on three sides, Napoleon chose Den Helder to build the largest naval base with shipyard in the Netherlands. Willemsoord just outside the city centre houses the Naval Museum and the Lifeboat Museum. There is plenty to see and experience for young and old alike. Most unique, however, is to see the inside of the Tuna, a huge submarine
